A very pretty wine now with cedar, mushrooms, and dried red fruit. Medium body, fine tannins, and a subtle, polished finish. A wonderful old Rioja now.
What We Thought: I love Gran Reservas. All of the oak and bottle aging that produces a 13-year-old "current vintage" consistently produces an amazingly smooth expression of Rioja filled with medium-bodied, ripe black cherry fruit, notes of licorice and leather, and only the supplest of tannins.
