Coming from a mix of clones and the Northridge Vineyard (which is a high-density planting), the 2017 Syrah The Hidden was not destemmed and was brought up 20 months in 55% new puncheons. Deep ruby/purple, with killer minerality in its black cherry and currant fruits as well as notes of beef blood, violets, spiced meats, and spring flowers, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, beautiful elegance and purity, fine tannins, and a great finish. —J.D.
