Rich but fresh on the nose, with a hint of cigar box to the blackberries, dark cherries, and roasted spices. Medium—to full-bodied on the palate, with firm, lightly chewy tannins and a juicy, flavorful center palate. Pretty long in the finish. It needs a year or two to let the tannins soften more. Try in 2025.
What We Thought: Inky-dark, thick, and full-bodied, this soft, ultra-ripe wine has nothing in common with its French ancestors. Filled with robust blackberry and plum fruit with notes of dark chocolate, the tannins are but a whisper of the firm finish of a Madrian.
