Appearance of intense purple- red color, with a great aromatic intensity of ripe black fruits, blackberries, prunes, black liquorice and spices. The palate is powerful, with big sweet tannins; creamy mouth feel and a round, long and silky finish.
This wine has a subtle nose of dark berries with a hint of earthiness. A blend of Garnacha and Shiraz, it opens on the palate with flavors of clove, licorice, violet, orange zest and blackberry preserves enclosed in a grid of feathery tannins. The spicy finish goes on seemingly forever. —M.D.
Here's What We Thought:
Gruñón (“the grumpy one”) isn’t actually grumpy — it’s bold, loud, and a like the friend who shows up late to dinner but brings the best bottle. Deep red in the glass, the nose bursts with ripe blackberries, black plum compote, and sweet black cherry, followed closely by licorice, cracked pepper, and warm baking spices. The palate is plush and powerful, balancing juicy Garnacha fruit with Shiraz’s peppery grip and silky tannins. Rich and smooth, it finishes long with dark chocolate and black fruit warmth. This is not a shy wine. It’s confident, expressive, and built for pleasure — perfect for when subtlety is overrated and flavor is the point. Pairs perfectly with grilled ribeye, spiced pork belly, eggplant roasted with miso, honey, and olive oil or go for the cheese plate of Manchego, smoked Gouda, or Comté. 🍷
