Black plum and blackcurrant fruit on the nose, combined with cloves, spice box and tobacco. It’s full-bodied with a firm and focused tannin frame that’s well integrated with the dark and spicy fruit. Long, polished finish. Drink or hold.—C.N.
What We Thought: Wine entrepreneur Andrew Browne named this Cabernet as a tribute to his grandfather, Bitner. It has a surprisingly big, dark berry fruit nose of ripe blackberry and black raspberry fruit that leads to an equally big palate of the same fruit flavors. It is full-bodied, ripe and rich. A complex spice box combines with the fruit on both the nose and palate. There are evident and firm tannins, but they mellow nicely after opening. Big wine needs big food – a nice filet or something like beef goulash would work well.
