A short 45-minute decant delivers aromas of plum, spice, & tobacco. On the palate, you'll find plum and blueberry with tamed tannins. Full-bodied and delicious. Lovers of structured cabs and Italian reds should not miss this!
Pretty aromas of black cherries, wild raspberries, crushed violets, and savory spices flow from the glass of this elegant Sagrantino. The palate is well-balanced and structured with ample black fruits supported by notes of dried herbs, licorice, and black tea, finishing with lifted acidity. Drink 2025–2040. —J.P.
What We Thought: Now, five years since harvest, this wine is a dark red-purple color with a clear rim. On the nose are plum, red cherry, and spice with light floral notes. On the palate, there is more plum, spice, and tobacco. With a 45-minute decant, it becomes more expansive with blueberry and hints of blackberry, too. The dusty tannins are present but tamed on this full-bodied wine.
The 2018 Carapace is a delicious wine that almost begs for steak. A braised short rib would be good, too. It drinks well now, but the structure indicates it will be a joy for years to come.
