The old guard stainless steel Chardonnay of the Willamette Valley has shifted its fruit sources north to Washington state. Its Golden Delicious apple and Bosc pear aromas are joined by a trace of wet modeling clay. The same orchard fruit appears on the palate, along with flavors of lemon basil and pine-like sage. —M.A.
