The Saint-Esprit’s deep color has a dark, plum-like hue. The nose is classic syrah, with berry fruit, violet and licorice. It has a full, rounded palate with delicate tannins, making it a unique wine in the Côtes-du-Rhône appellation.
A very satisfying Côtes du Rhône with an an excellent balance of generous red fruit and delicate spicy aromas, with remarkably fine tannins for an entry-level wine. They support the long, velvety finish. A cuvee of 60% grenache, 30% syrah and 10% mourvedre. Drink or hold. —S.P.
Muddled black plum, apricot skin and boysenberry aromas frolic on the nose accented by hibiscus and violet blossom. Prominent black fruit on the palate leans against red raspberry on the finish that slightly-grippy tannins enhance. Pair with a bacon cheeseburger, lamb chop and roasted eggplant. —A.C.
