A wine that fills the air with the aroma of squid ink risotto is just fine with me. The blackberries, violets, and traces of toffee were nice bonuses. Flavors of dried dates and blackcap raspberries, with shockingly brisk acidity and sturdy tannins. —M.A.
What We Thought: Deeply colored and densely full-bodied, this smoothly textured Syrah is filled with ultra-ripe blackberry and plum fruit and complex notes of black pepper, baking spice, espresso, licorice, and dark chocolate, all supported by supple yet serious tannins.
