Kongsgaard consistently makes the best Chardonnay in California today. –Eric Asimov, New York Times
Since the 1996 inaugural vintage, the Chardonay has been primarily sourced from the Carneros growers Lee Hudson and Larry Hyde. Beginning in 2020 we have been privileged to include fruit from the spectacular Coombsville vineyard planted by Warren Winiarski. In line with the previous bottlings, the wine is defined tension of mineral energy and opulence, honoring its Burgundian antecedents.
Here's What We Thought:
This Chardonnay is bright and smooth, with lovely notes of apple, pear, and a little almond. It’s creamy but crisp, so it never feels heavy—pairs perfectly with roasted chicken, salmon, or anything cheesy. Honestly, it’s one of those wines you just want to sip again and again.
