This wine is fresh and vibrant, with aromas of baked black cherry, strawberry-rhubarb jelly, and dried sage. Other notes waft through, including blackberry confiture, black tea, and allspice. Layers of mocha, sweet cigar, chicory, and minerality lead to a dry, supple finish. Pair with mole. —T.P.
What We Thought: A dramatic note of black cherry and black pepper frames the nose of this robust, full-bodied Zinfandel. The palate is filled with ultra-ripe blackberry and plum fruit, along with more notes of peppery spice and toasty vanilla with an oozingly smooth finish.
