While the tannins are a bit stunted and drying, the fruit is compressed nicely, avoiding the tiring sweetness of so many Ripasso wines. Cloves, woodsy cherries, orange oil, camphor, and a hint of varnish. An airy bitterness at the piquant finish. Nicely done. Drink or hold. —N.G.
What We Thought: This has a big black cherry nose and a smooth, medium-bodied palate filled with ripe plum and black cherry fruit along with notes of baking spice, espresso, and black pepper, and finishing with some supple tannins and food-friendly acids.
