This blend of 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Franc and 16% Syrah possesses juicy acidity, silky tannins and aromas of rose petals, blueberries, thyme, espresso and earth. The wine's crisp texture matches tangy cranberry and black tea flavors, with a bit of earthy black mustard seed. —M.A.
Strangely lighter than the Merlot-based Uriah, the 2019 Frederick, made of 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Franc and 16% Syrah, is slightly shy on the nose before expanding on the palate. The wine is fresh, succulent and acid-driven on the palate, possessing finesse and ending with a soft but very food-friendly finish. The wine aged for 30 months in a mix of French oak, stainless steel and neutral puncheon. 14,400 bottles were produced. -A.M.
What We Thought: Opens with a ripe black-cherry nose and that classic Spring Valley clarity in the glass — pure garnet with deep, slow-moving legs. The palate is full-bodied and richly layered, packed with blackberry, cassis, and dark chocolate, supported by smooth yet confident tannins that let you know this wine has plenty of life ahead of it. There’s a touch of licorice and warm spice on the finish, and the whole wine feels seamless, polished, and unmistakably Spring Valley. A beautiful Bordeaux-style blend that drinks wonderfully now.
