Bright garnet. Dried cherry, candied rose, smoked meat, tobacco and a hint of fruitcake on the nose. Smooth and pliant in the mouth, offering appealingly sweet cherry pie, red currant and vanilla flavors that show no rough edges. Fully mature but still delivers good energy. The very long, smoky finish echoes the tobacco and vanilla notes. -J.R.
What We Thought: Silky and savory. Dried red cherry and cranberry glide into tobacco leaf, cedar, and black tea, with that telltale dried mushroom/umami note mature Rioja lovers chase. The palate is medium-bodied, supple and resolved, finishing long with a gentle smoky spice echo. Serve at cellar temp and this will charm the table. -Mat
