The Bootleg Prequel Red Blend displays a deep, opaque purple color and exudes aromas of lavender, blueberry, bacon and wood-smoke. Its texture is round, full bodied, opening to flavors of forest fruits, black pepper and toasted oak. A substantial, supple wine that's superb on its own, but will elevate sautéed mushrooms and lamb sausages to next level status.
The 2019 Prequel takes on some umami richness, with BBQ spices, baked plum, and fresh earth. Full-bodied, it has a plush, velvety structure, with notes of ripe mixed berries and mocha, sweet tannins, and a floral finish. Juicy and approachable, I would prefer this for fresher youthful drinking.—A.F.
