Bold and muscular, potent and layered aromas lift from the glass, with menthol, cassis, toasted cedar, and vanilla. Fleshy and very full-bodied, its velvety sweet tannins and plummy fruit coat the palate, with fresh acidity and a long, toasty finish. A seductive wine, it will take time to reveal its more savory complexity. Drink 2025-2040. —A.F.
What We Thought: They may have changed the name, but it's still Hidden Ridge, with a dramatic nose of cedar and cassis with an elegantly smooth, full-bodied palate. Complex, with plenty of ripe blackberry and black raspberry fruit, along with notes of coffee, vanilla, and dark chocolate. It's supported by supple but serious tannins that promise a long life in the cellar, although it is drinking so well that it makes me wonder, "Why Wait!"
