The smoke and black pepper notes of syrah are intertwined with the fleshiness and mellower personality of the grenache grape in a very convincing manner. Behind this is a solid base of supple tannins. The generous red fruit and touches of blackberries and summer flowers give this a lot of appeal. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. —S.P.
What We Thought: Leading with its 53% syrah component, this smooth, approachable wine greets you with classic varietal notes on the palate. It also acknowledges the more typical Grenache notes (41%) with hints of black pepper and spice on the nose. Rounding it out, there are also lots of ripe blackberry and light red fruit flavors on the palate. Tannins are quite supple and make this a perfect wine to accompany grilled pork tenderloin, lamb, salmon, or as I had with dinner last night, a sausage breakfast casserole.
