Each of the red Châteauneuf-du-Papes from Domaine Roger Sabon comes from a different collection of terroirs. In Les Olivets, it is primarily from sandy limestone and rocky limestone soils in the northwestern part of the appellation – the lieux dits of Pradel and Les Devès d’Estouard. Always one of the best bargains in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Les Olivets is open-knit and vibrant.
Appealing brightness shines through in this juicy, ripe and stylish version, with silky tannins driving the core of raspberry ganache, currant and violet. Polished gently, this offers oak spice notes alongside hints of toast and grilled meat. Everything is anchored by bolts of iron that draw out the seductive finish, which maintains precision. Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault. Drink now through 2036. –K.B.
A well-crafted, balanced and serious Châteauneuf-du-Pape with aromas of dark berries, dark plums, dried herbs and wet stones. It's full-bodied with fine, firm tannins. Well-built, textural and structured. Well-driven with a spicy dimension to it. Pulpy and focused. Try after 2026.
Cured meat, licorice and strawberry compote introduce the 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Olivets. Spicy, fleshy and framed in a firm tannic structure, the medium- to full-bodied 2022 walks off the stage with a savory conclusion and demands more time to come together. –N.G.
The 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape Les Olivets showed beautifully, with a forward, charming, sexy style in its darker fruits, peppery herbs, and floral aromas and flavors. It's seamless, medium to full-bodied, has silky tannins, and a great finish. Under the helm of Didier Negron, Domaine Roger Sabon plays in the top handful of producers in the Southern Rhône.
